The Marbella Style Happily Blends the Old with the New

I guess if you were to ask two people what their idea of Marbella would be, you may likely receive two very different answers to the question.  However, I suspect they would both be right in their description, as Marbella does find itself with a bit of a split personality when it comes to differentiating styles and architecture.

On the one side of its more modern personality screams modernism, with a fresh upbeat movement, fantastic Avant-garde design with interiors as unique as their exteriors and Marbella itself. They stand alone or sometimes intermingle with the high rises and plush new apartments, office buildings and hotels, giving off a classy and ostentatious air.  It invites you to become a little more risqué, as modesty is just not the chosen word of the day around here.  It seems to live by the philosophy of “If you’ve got, flaunt it.”  Marbella tends to have it!

They build big and contemporary here, with state of the art design, technology and functionality, blending serenely with the Andalusian backdrop of high mountains, golden sands, blue skies and waters.  It all works seamlessly together somehow and is not lost to the avant-garde mansions and marinas full of lavish yachts.

Puerto Bánus flaunts its style

The new side of Marbella is all about the fun, frolics, limelight and glamour; it can’t seem to get enough of it.  People come here to entertain, to dance and to sing, to be merry or to purely enjoy what they have.  The new side, which includes the Golden Mile for instance, is a bit of a show off and never misses the opportunity to do so with total abandon.  It is also the reason why its so popular.

Here you will see the best houses, the best cars, the best dressed men, women and dogs etc.  Oh and the odd famous person who regularly visits this side of Spain, as they feel so comfortable and tend to blend in here.

If you want to find a disco, a restaurant, a cocktail bar, casinos, live music and dancing or entertainers, then look no further.  They are all available to you with enough of what you need for as long as you need it.  The new side of Marbella loves to party and as long as you do, it won’t stop.

So after all that partying and high life you must take yourself over to the Old Town of Marbella, as its waiting to give you a back rub…

Now over on the flip side of Marbella is a more authentic and typically Andalucian one.  One which leans back a little more and asks you nicely to chill and spend some time with it, just to take it all in.  The Old Town of Marbella says “Come and look at my beautiful, whitewashed houses that drip with vibrantly coloured flowers and intoxicating smells.  Amble down my winding streets that lead you into unique shops and curiosities, where you will feel like you have stepped back in time.  Trust me, you will love it.”

The Old Town wants you to take it easy, maybe after a few lively nights on the other side, or maybe before contemplating a few?  However it will almost urge you to slow down to a comfortable and laid back pace, where you can contemplate your navel and other things.  Hey maybe you don’t want to think at all and that’s fine too.

It will subtly tempt you to browse around its ancient Spanish style whitewashed houses, with pristine cobbled streets and wavy terracotta tiled roofs.  These leading onto open areas to take a break in cafes or restaurants or enjoy a beer or wine and tapas outside in the sun and watch the wonderful world go by.

The Old Town wants you to be blissful and happy and go at a steady pace, allowing you to literally smell the roses and take in as much as you can.  So why would you not succumb to that?

The typical Andalusian style of this side of Marbella knows its attractive, even though it may be a little more demure than its newer, more unabashed counterpart.  There is still a quietly confident ambience here.  The Old Town is very comfortable with what it is and makes full use of its positives and unique traits.

Why wouldn’t you, when you are delightful and charming and stunning to the eye?  When you can blow somebody away, just at the sheer sight and joy that you bring to the people.

So even though there may be something a little Bipolar about Marbella architecture and style, which does not take away from the fact that there is something to please everyone in the flux of old and new characteristics.  It’s all good!
